Chapter 6 - The Evidence Room

The horrifying truth finally made perfect sense to Rachel.

The Chief of Police was aggressively trying to erase the secret family that could ruin his political career.

"We have to sneak into the central precinct," Rachel declared, loading a fresh magazine into her pistol.

"Are you completely insane?" Marcus yelled, gripping the steering wheel tightly.

"Every cop in the city is actively hunting you right now."

"The Chief's private safe is located in the basement evidence room," Rachel explained.

"If he has Sarah and the kids, the location of his black-site property will be in that safe."

Marcus parked the car three blocks away from the heavily fortified police station.

Rachel used her intimate knowledge of the building's patrol routes to slip through a cracked basement window.

She moved silently through the dark, damp corridors, avoiding the newly installed security cameras.

She reached the heavy steel door of the evidence room and quickly punched in a master override code.

The door clicked open, and she slipped inside the massive warehouse of confiscated contraband.

She located the Chief's personal locker and used a specialized lock-picking tool to crack the mechanism.

Inside was a single manila folder containing the deed to an underground bunker beneath the city's abandoned water treatment plant.

Suddenly, the harsh fluorescent lights of the evidence room flickered and turned completely on.

Rachel spun around to see three heavily armed tactical officers blocking the only exit.

"Drop your weapon, Brooks," the lead officer commanded, raising his assault rifle.
