Chapter 5 - The Fugitive

Rachel stared at her own gun resting beside her dead partner.
"Someone murdered him and planted your weapon to frame you," Marcus said, panic rising in his voice.
The sudden, deafening wail of dozens of police sirens echoed across the shipping yard.
Red and blue lights flooded the massive steel gates of the docks.
"They already called it in," Rachel realized, her heart hammering violently against her ribs.
"I am officially a fugitive wanted for murdering a police officer."
They sprinted back to Marcus's car and sped down a hidden dirt access road just as the SWAT teams arrived.
Rachel stared at the USB drive she had rescued from the burning apartment.
She plugged it into Marcus's laptop to finally uncover the truth.
The drive contained a massive folder of highly classified internal police documents.
It detailed an enormous drug trafficking syndicate run completely by the Detroit Chief of Police.
"Jenkins wasn't the mastermind, he was just a low-level enforcer," Rachel whispered.
"The Chief is the one who took Sarah and the kids."
"We need to find out where he hides his high-value hostages," Marcus said, swerving the car onto the highway.
Rachel opened the final document on the encrypted drive.
It was a copy of Lily's official birth certificate.
