Chapter 2 - The Dirty Secret
Rachel paced the sterile waiting room of the hospital while doctors treated little Leo's fever.
Her cell phone buzzed loudly in her pocket.
It was Marcus Thorne, the graveyard shift 911 dispatcher.
"Rachel, I dug into the mother's emergency call history," Marcus said.
"What did you find?" Rachel asked, keeping her voice low.
"Sarah didn't call to report domestic violence tonight," Marcus explained.
"She called the tip line to report a dirty cop operating in your district."
Rachel felt a sudden, terrifying chill run down her spine.
"She gave the dispatcher a specific squad car number," Marcus continued.
"It was your partner's squad car, Rachel."
Rachel stared blankly at the hospital wall, trying to process the massive betrayal.
Her partner, Officer Jenkins, had called in sick just four hours before her shift started.
"Are you telling me Jenkins kidnapped a mother of two?" Rachel whispered.

"I am telling you that Jenkins just pulled the security footage for the hospital you are currently in," Marcus warned frantically.
"He is in the building with you right now."
