Chapter 7 - The Sibling Secret

Sadie stared at the terrifying video of the bomb, a cold sweat breaking out across her forehead.
"What is it?" Roman rasped, pushing himself up on one elbow despite his severe injuries.
Sadie handed him the phone, her hands shaking violently.
Roman stared at the screen, his jaw tightening into a lethal, unforgiving line.
"Toby isn't just a low-level runner for the Morettis," Roman deduced quietly.
Sadie closed her eyes, knowing she had to confess the truth before they both died.
"He is my half-brother," Sadie whispered, the secret finally leaving her lips.
Roman froze, his dark eyes snapping up to meet hers with terrifying intensity.
"We share the same father," Sadie explained, crying softly. "That is why he brought me the flowers, to secretly establish contact."
Roman’s expression hardened into a mask of pure, unadulterated fury.
"You lied to me," Roman stated, his voice devoid of the warmth he had shown her moments ago.
"I didn't know he was working for your enemies, I swear!" Sadie pleaded, grabbing his hand.
Roman pulled his hand away, his betrayal evident in every rigid muscle of his body.
"I will deal with your brother," Roman said coldly, forcing himself to stand up despite his wound.
He limped over to the cabin’s radiator, pulling a pair of heavy steel handcuffs from his belt.
Before Sadie could react, Roman grabbed her wrist and locked her securely to the iron pipe.
"Roman, what are you doing?" Sadie screamed, pulling desperately against the metal restraint.
"I am keeping you out of the crossfire while I clean up your family's mess," Roman said without looking back.

He grabbed a loaded shotgun from the cabin’s emergency stash.
He walked out the front door, leaving her trapped in the dark woods while he marched toward a suicide mission.
