Chapter 5 - The Underboss Betrayal

The heavy steel door slowly creaked open.

Roman immediately pushed Sadie behind his broad body, drawing a spare knife from his boot.

Standing in the doorway, holding a high-powered assault rifle, was Vito.

The underboss stepped into the panic room, a cruel, mocking smile twisting his scarred face.

"The Morettis send their regards, boss," Vito sneered, keeping the rifle aimed directly at Roman’s chest.

"You sold us out, Vito," Roman said, his voice dangerously calm despite the blood pouring down his arm.

"You made us weak, Roman!" Vito spat, taking a step closer.

"You are obsessed with a pathetic little maid instead of focusing on the family business."

Vito raised the rifle, his finger tightening on the trigger.

"Say goodbye to your little pet," Vito laughed.

Sadie did not think; she simply reacted.

She grabbed a heavy, solid brass fire extinguisher from the wall and hurled it with all her strength.

The heavy cylinder smashed into Vito’s face, knocking his aim wildly off target.

The rifle fired into the concrete ceiling as Roman lunged forward like a feral animal.

Roman tackled his former friend to the ground, driving his knife deep into Vito’s neck.

Vito gasped, choking on his own blood, before his eyes rolled back and he went completely still.

Roman stood up slowly, breathing heavily, his white shirt now soaked in a horrifying amount of blood.

He turned to look at Sadie, trying to give her a reassuring nod.

But his eyes rolled back in his head.

Roman collapsed face-first onto the concrete floor, revealing a massive, gaping bullet wound in his lower back that he had hidden from her.
