Chapter 8 - The Desperate Ploy

Three heavily armored state trooper vehicles swerved aggressively onto my front lawn, their bright spotlights blinding everyone.
Detective Harris cursed loudly and instinctively lowered his weapon to avoid being shot by the approaching officers.
I definitely didn't wait for him to recover from the sudden shock.
I spun around quickly and kicked him forcefully in the side of his kneecap.
He grunted loudly in pain and dropped his gun into the thick rose bushes beside the porch.
State troopers poured out of their vehicles rapidly with assault rifles drawn and perfectly aimed.
"Drop to the ground and put your hands directly on your heads!" the lead trooper bellowed through a megaphone.
My mother screamed in sheer panic and tried to run awkwardly toward the backyard.
A massive trooper tackled her violently into the mud, ending her pathetic escape instantly.
Harris raised his hands slowly, pretending to be a fellow loyal officer in distress.
"Hold your fire, I'm a local detective working an undercover sting operation!" Harris lied flawlessly.
The lead trooper walked forward very cautiously, keeping his weapon perfectly leveled at Harris.
"We received an anonymous emergency tip about a corrupt officer executing a civilian at this address," the trooper stated.
I looked frantically toward the dark SUV parked securely in the driveway.
Rachel was holding her glowing cell phone, crying hysterically over Marcus's lifeless body.
She had finally done the right thing and called the state police to report the horrible murder.
Troopers immediately swarmed Harris, disarming him completely and slamming him against the hood of a cruiser.
Paramedics rushed rapidly past the chaos, completely focused on saving Eli in the back of the car.

I followed the paramedics closely as they loaded my son into the bright, warm ambulance.
Just as the doors were about to close securely, a trooper handed me a bloody envelope he found in Harris's pocket.
