Chapter 6 - The Ultimate Betrayal

Rain soaked my mother's expensive designer coat as she walked slowly down the driveway.

She raised the stolen gun and pointed it directly at Rachel's head through the open car door.

"You stupid, completely useless girl," Linda spat with absolute venom dripping from her words.

"You were supposed to make sure the boy didn't survive the night in that filthy shed."

Rachel froze completely, her hands raised high in absolute terror.

"Mom, please, you just killed Marcus," Rachel sobbed uncontrollably into the rain.

"Marcus was exceptionally weak, just like your pathetic sister," my mother replied coldly.

"I owe extremely dangerous people three million dollars, and Eli's death is the only way I can pay them back."

I felt a fierce, primal rage explode inside my chest, instantly burning away all my lingering fear.

I gently laid Eli down on the back seat and quietly unbuckled my heavy leather boot.

"You will never touch my son again," I whispered fiercely as I crept stealthily toward the open door behind Rachel.

My mother sneered aggressively and visibly tightened her finger on the trigger.

"I brought you into this world, Natalie, and I can easily take you out of it," she threatened.

Before she could fire the weapon, I lunged forward with all my physical strength.

I swung my heavy boot wildly, striking her directly in the wrist with the thick wooden heel.

The gun fired harmlessly into the dark night sky before clattering loudly onto the wet asphalt.

I tackled my own mother violently to the hard ground, completely blinded by a mother's protective fury.

We wrestled brutally in the freezing mud, her long acrylic nails tearing desperately at my face.

Suddenly, incredibly strong hands grabbed me from behind and forcefully pulled me away from her.

I looked up, expecting to see the ruthless cartel men, but instead saw Detective Harris holding a bright flashlight.
