Chapter 5 - The Grandfather's Wrath

The police sirens wailed in the distance within mere minutes.
Miranda clutched her bleeding arm and smiled at me with pure, unadulterated evil.
The front door was suddenly kicked open with tremendous force.
The corrupt cop, Miranda's brother, rushed into the room with his service weapon drawn.
He aimed the gun directly at my chest and ordered me to drop to my knees.
Miranda cried fake tears and claimed I had tried to murder her in her sleep.
The cop pulled out his handcuffs and stepped aggressively toward me.
Before he could reach me, the massive front window of our living room shattered completely.
A heavy, rusted pickup truck rammed backward into the police cruiser parked outside.
The sound of twisting metal echoed through the quiet suburban street.
Grandpa Elias stepped through the broken window frame, stepping over the shattered glass.
He was bruised, bleeding from his lip, and holding a heavy steel tire iron.
Miranda's brother spun around and aimed his gun at Elias.
Elias did not even flinch as he stared down the barrel of the loaded weapon.
He calmly informed the corrupt officer that he had just escaped from the police precinct.
He told them he knew exactly how to break out because he had help from the inside.

Elias stepped to the side, revealing a second person climbing through the window.
It was the police chief, and he had his gun pointed directly at Miranda's brother.
