Chapter 6 - The Mother of Betrayal
I watched in sheer disbelief as my own mother aimed a weapon at my face.
Eleanor Whitman looked completely devoid of any maternal warmth or hesitation.
She ordered Reyes to slide the scorched lockbox across the concrete floor immediately.
I asked her how she could possibly betray her own children for a corrupt corporation.
She laughed bitterly and stated that power was the only currency that actually mattered in this world.
She threatened to shoot Miles in the head if I did not cooperate with her demands.
Miles groaned in pain from the backseat, completely helpless to fight back.
Reyes slowly raised his hands and kicked the metal box toward my mother's feet.
She greedily crouched down to open the box, her eyes wide with anticipation.
I knew I had to act before she realized the terrible truth about what was inside.
As she popped the latch, she stared down into an entirely empty metal container.

She screamed in absolute fury, demanding to know where the ledger was hidden.
Before I could even speak, a high-caliber sniper bullet shattered the windshield of her assault vehicle.
