Chapter 6 - The Return of the Dead

Victor smiled at me, looking exactly as terrifying as he did the day he supposedly died.

He coldly ordered Luke to start the engine and drive toward the abandoned warehouse district.

I begged my father to let us go, promising we would never tell anyone he was still alive.

Victor completely ignored my desperate pleas and focused entirely on the sleeping baby in my arms.

He explained that Chloe had not just stolen his dirty money.

She had stolen a highly encrypted digital ledger containing the offshore bank accounts of his entire criminal syndicate.

Without that specific ledger, my father was completely completely bankrupt and hunted by his own dangerous partners.

He confidently believed that Chloe had successfully hidden the ledger somewhere inside my house.

He threatened to murder my three young sons if we did not give him exactly what he wanted tonight.

A fierce, primal, and unstoppable maternal rage instantly ignited deep within my soul.

Nobody was ever going to threaten the lives of my beautiful boys.

I suddenly remembered a strange, heavy package Chloe had mailed to our house six months ago.

She had told me to store it in the box of newborn baby clothes in the garage and never open it.

I looked at Luke and communicated silently through a shared, desperate glance.

I told my father that the ledger was currently hidden in our garage, exactly where Chloe had left it.
