Chapter 3 - The DNA Deception

Luke looked at me in absolute, utter shock.

He pulled his phone from his pocket and desperately scrolled through his old text messages.

He showed me a digital picture of a certified paternity test Chloe had sent him six months ago.

The official document clearly proved that he was a ninety-nine percent genetic match to the unborn child.

I held the diary in one hand and his phone in the other, completely paralyzed by the conflicting evidence.

Someone was lying, and the only person who knew the truth was currently lying in the hospital morgue.

I marched directly to the nurse's station and demanded to see my sister's complete admission file.

The head nurse hesitated, but my aggressive, intimidating tone forced her to comply.

I scanned the heavy stack of medical papers, searching for any clue about Chloe's life over the past three years.

My eyes immediately locked onto the emergency contact section on the very first page.

The name listed was not mine, and it was certainly not Luke's name either.

The emergency contact was listed as Victor Evans.

That was the name of my father, a notorious criminal who had supposedly died in a boating accident five years ago.

I felt an icy chill run violently down my spine as I realized my family was hiding terrifying secrets.

Before I could process this impossible information, a massive, heavily armed man wearing a dark suit stepped into the hallway.

He looked directly at Luke and pulled a suppressed handgun from his tailored jacket.
