Chapter 2 - The Sister's Secret
The hospital hallway suddenly began to violently spin around me.
I backed away from the nursery window, clutching my chest as I struggled to breathe.
My husband had slept with my own sister and fathered her child.
Luke desperately grabbed my shoulders, begging me to listen to his side of the story.
He claimed Chloe had shown up at his office a year ago, absolutely terrified and begging for money.
They had gone to a hotel to talk, they both drank too much, and he made the biggest mistake of his life.
I screamed at him, completely disgusted by his pathetic, cowardly excuses.
Before I could walk away forever, a senior nurse approached us with a somber expression.
She handed me a small, sealed plastic bag containing Chloe’s personal belongings.
Inside the bag was a silver locket, a cracked cell phone, and a small, leather-bound diary.
The nurse explained that Chloe had aggressively insisted I read the diary if she did not survive the birth.
I tore the bag open with shaking hands and flipped to the very last page of the journal.
Chloe's handwriting was messy and completely frantic.
