Chapter 7 - The Phantom Brother

Marcus froze, his arrogant smile vanishing instantly as the red dot rested between his eyes.
Rocco stared into the smoke, his heart pounding against his ribs in absolute disbelief.
A man stepped into the dim light, holding a customized sniper rifle with practiced ease.
It was Luca Caruso, Rocco's older brother who had supposedly died in a car bombing five years ago.
Luca looked exactly the same, complete with the jagged scar running down his jawline.
"You're dead," Marcus whispered, his hand trembling as he held his pistol.
"I got better," Luca replied coldly, firing a warning shot that took off Marcus's left earlobe.
Marcus screamed in agony, dropping his weapon and clutching the side of his bloody head.
The remaining mercenaries hesitated, unsure of how to handle the sudden appearance of a ghost.
"Leave now, or die with him," Luca commanded the hired guns, his voice echoing with authority.
The mercenaries valued their lives more than Marcus's money, and they quickly retreated into the night.
Luca walked forward, kicking Marcus's discarded gun across the concrete floor.
Rocco stepped up, ignoring his bleeding shoulder, and grabbed his brother by the collar.
"Where have you been for five years?" Rocco demanded, anger mixing with his overwhelming shock.
"I've been hunting the people who tried to kill me, Rocco, the people who now want your son."
Luca gestured toward the laptop on the workbench, his eyes narrowing.
"I am the Architect," Luca confessed, staring directly into Rocco's furious eyes.
"I funded Maria and Marcus to flush out the traitors in our organization."

Rocco realized with horror that his own brother had orchestrated the attack on his wedding.
Before Rocco could react, Luca slammed the butt of his rifle into Rocco's temple, knocking him out cold.
