Chapter 9 - The Final Trap

The street erupted into absolute chaos as sirens wailed from every direction.

James had orchestrated this entire night as a massive trap to catch Adrian in the open.

The burner phone James gave me had been broadcasting our location to a federal task force the entire time.

Adrian realized he had been completely outplayed by the man he betrayed fifty-six years ago.

He raised his gun, aiming directly at my head in a final act of spite.

James lunged forward, tackling Adrian to the hard pavement.

The gun fired wildly into the air as the two old soldiers fought on the ground.

Federal agents swarmed the intersection, disarming Adrian's confused mercenaries.

I watched in horror as Adrian pulled a combat knife from his boot.

He slashed James across the arm, drawing a bright line of crimson blood.

James didn't even flinch at the pain.

He twisted Adrian's wrist, forcing him to drop the knife, and pinned him to the ground.

An FBI agent rushed in and violently yanked Adrian to his feet, slapping heavy steel cuffs on his wrists.

James stood up, clutching his bleeding arm, and walked back over to me.

The nightmare was finally coming to an end.

But as the lead federal agent walked over to take our statements, he looked at James and frowned.

The agent drew his service weapon and pointed it squarely at my husband's chest.
