Chapter 4 - The Armory

I stopped breathing entirely.

The echoing silence of the tunnel felt like a physical weight crushing my chest.

"How did he get Chloe?" I screamed, jumping to my feet.

"He knew you helped me at the store, so he went after your family to gain leverage," Roman explained grimly.

I paced the concrete floor, tears of pure rage mixing with the rain on my face.

"We have to give him the drive," I demanded.

"If we give him the drive, he will kill us all anyway," Roman stated matter-of-factly.

Titan whined, sensing my distress, and nudged my hand with a cold nose.

"Then what do we do?" I asked, my voice trembling.

"We prepare for a war," Roman replied.

He led us out of the tunnels and stole an old sedan parked near a diner.

We drove in silence to an upscale high-rise building that Roman secretly owned under a fake name.

The private elevator scanned his fingerprint and took us to the penthouse level.

The doors opened to a luxurious apartment, untouched and completely silent.

Roman walked over to a bookshelf, pulled a specific volume, and a hidden door hissed open.

Inside was a massive armory filled with tactical vests, weapons, and ammunition.

He tossed me a Kevlar vest.

"Put this on," he ordered, loading a sleek black rifle.

I strapped the heavy vest over my chest, my hands shaking uncontrollably.

Roman stepped close to me, his hands gently covering mine to steady them.

"I promise you, on my life, we will get your sister back," he whispered, his eyes burning with intensity.

I nodded, feeling a strange surge of trust for the most dangerous man in the city.

We grabbed the gear and turned around to leave the armory.

Suddenly, the lights in the apartment flickered and died.

A red laser sight pierced the darkness, resting directly over my heart.

"You really should change your security codes, Roman," a voice echoed from the shadows.
