Chapter 10 - The Last Stand

There was nowhere left to run.
Elias stood at the railing of his yacht, looking down at us with a victorious smirk.
"Bring them up," Elias ordered his men.
Guards dragged us onto the pristine deck of the yacht, forcing Roman and me to our knees.
Titan growled low in his throat, but Roman gave him a subtle hand signal to stay down.
"You fought well, Roman, but the game is over," Elias said, reaching out to take the metal capsule from Roman’s pocket.
Roman did not fight back as his uncle snatched the evidence.
"You always were too confident, Elias," Roman said quietly, a dark smile spreading across his bruised face.
Elias frowned, looking down at the metal cylinder in his hand.
Roman tapped a hidden button on his expensive watch.
The cylinder in Elias’s hand began to beep loudly, emitting a blinding strobe light.
It was not the evidence drive; it was a high-tech tracking beacon wired directly to the FBI task force.
Before Elias could throw it overboard, the sky erupted with the deafening sound of multiple police helicopters.
Coast Guard cutters swarmed the yacht from all sides, blinding the mercenaries with searchlights.
"FBI! Drop your weapons!" boomed over a megaphone.
Elias’s men immediately surrendered, dropping their rifles to the deck in panic.
Elias tried to run, but Titan finally got his command and tackled the old man to the floor, pinning him down by the throat.
Federal agents swarmed the boat, arresting Elias and taking him away in handcuffs.
Roman walked over to me, pulling me into a tight embrace as the nightmare finally ended.
Six months later, Second Chance Pet Supply reopened in a beautiful new building, fully funded by Roman.
My sister was safe, my name was completely cleared, and Roman had left his dangerous life behind to help me run the store.
We were sleeping peacefully in our new home, the rain tapping gently against the bedroom window.
Suddenly, Titan stood up from his dog bed, the fur on his spine standing straight up as he growled at the darkness outside.

On the nightstand, Roman’s old, discarded burner phone suddenly lit up with a single text message.
It read: "Elias was just a pawn, and now I am coming for you."
