Chapter 1 - The Confrontation

"What the hell did you do to our room keys?" he hissed, his face turning a dangerous shade of red.
I calmly picked up my linen napkin and dabbed the corner of my mouth.
"I believe guest services provided you with the correct keys for your new accommodations," I replied clearly.
Vanessa pushed past him, her face twisted in absolute disgust.
"You put us in the absolute bottom of the ship, Millie!" she shrieked.
"Our room smells like diesel fuel and the walls vibrate every time the engine turns," Mom cried, clutching her cardigan.
Dad slammed his heavy hand onto my table, rattling my crystal water glass.
"You are going to march up to the concierge right now and fix this," he demanded.
I looked at him with a coldness I did not know I possessed.
"I am not doing anything except finishing my salad," I stated evenly.
"You ruined our family vacation!" Vanessa yelled, drawing the attention of every passenger nearby.
"I paid for this vacation, Vanessa," I reminded her with a perfectly pleasant smile.
"Since you were all so excited for a drama-free trip without me, I simply took my financial support back."
Dad crossed his arms and glared at me with absolute venom.
"You think you hold all the power, but I already took care of it," he sneered.
He pointed a thick finger toward the grand staircase of the dining room.
"Brandon is at the front desk upgrading us to the royal suites using his own black card," Dad announced proudly.
I looked over Dad's shoulder and watched Brandon jogging toward us with a pale, panicked expression.
"Mister Miller, the concierge just ran my card for the upgrade," Brandon panted, completely out of breath.
May you like
"And?" Dad asked with a smug grin aimed entirely at me.
"The card was declined for massive fraud, and ship security is on their way here to detain us," Brandon whispered in terror.
