Chapter 9 - The Rescue

A heavily armored SWAT vehicle smashed through the ruined doors of the warehouse.
Dozens of federal agents poured into the building, throwing flashbang grenades in every direction.
The deafening explosions blinded Elias and his mercenaries instantly.
Evelyn covered her eyes and sprinted directly through the chaotic crossfire toward her daughter.
She pulled a small knife from her boot and slashed the ropes binding Maya to the chair.
"Hold onto me and do not let go!" Evelyn screamed over the sound of automatic gunfire.
She dragged Maya behind a heavy steel shipping container just as bullets ripped through the space where they had been sitting.
The federal agents overwhelmed the mercenaries in less than two minutes.
Elias tried to run toward the back exit, but a federal sniper shot him perfectly in the kneecap.
He collapsed to the concrete floor, screaming in absolute agony as agents slapped handcuffs on him.
Evelyn held Maya tightly, kissing her forehead and crying tears of pure relief.
The lead FBI agent walked over to them, lowering his weapon with a respectful nod.
"We received your anonymous tip about the Volkov ledger and the mercenary hideout, Mrs. Vance," the agent said.
Evelyn had sent the encrypted message to the FBI the moment she realized Richard was lying.
She had orchestrated the federal raid perfectly to clean up the mess she could not handle alone.
The agent helped them up and escorted them safely out of the violent warehouse.
The morning sun was shining brightly over the Chicago harbor, signaling the end of the darkest night of their lives.
Evelyn looked at her daughter, knowing she would never let anyone hurt her again.

"It is finally over, Maya," Evelyn whispered, stroking her daughter's hair.
But as she looked up at the glittering city skyline, she knew her work was not entirely finished.
