Chapter 5 - The Impossible Heist

Elias stared at her as if she had completely lost her mind.
"You cannot rob the federal reserve, Evelyn, it is a suicide mission."
Evelyn loaded a spare magazine into her weapon and looked at him with absolute certainty.
"The Volkovs keep their physical collateral inside a black-site vault under that bank."
"If we steal their ledger, we control their entire organization."
Elias shook his head, but he began pulling blueprints from his bag anyway.
They spent the entire night planning the most dangerous infiltration of their lives.
At dawn, Evelyn walked into the grand lobby of the federal bank wearing a flawless black suit.
She played the role of a wealthy foreign investor demanding to see her private safety deposit box.
The bank manager led her down into the highly secure underground vault.
Elias had already hacked the security cameras, replacing the live feed with a looped recording.
As soon as the vault door closed, Evelyn pulled a suppressed pistol and aimed it at the manager.
"Open the Volkov box right now," she ordered calmly.
The terrified manager complied, unlocking a massive steel drawer in the corner.
Evelyn pulled out a thick, black leather ledger filled with blackmail material on every politician in Chicago.
This was the leverage she needed to force the syndicate to release her daughter.
She shoved the book into her briefcase and tied the manager to a chair.
She walked out of the bank with her head held high, looking like a victorious queen.
She climbed into the getaway van where Elias was waiting with the engine running.
"We got it," she smiled, opening the briefcase to show him the ledger.

But as she opened the black book, her triumphant smile vanished completely.
Every single page inside the book was completely blank.
