Chapter 1 - The First Move

Evelyn did not flinch as Richard stepped into the massive living room.

He wore a custom Italian suit and a smile that had charmed investors out of millions.

He walked to the crystal decanter and poured himself a glass of expensive scotch.

"You look incredibly formal today, Evelyn," he said without looking at her.

Evelyn reached into her pristine white briefcase and placed a single folder on the glass table.

"I want a divorce, Richard," she stated with absolute, terrifying calm.

He paused, taking a slow sip of his drink before laughing out loud.

He walked over and picked up the folder, barely glancing at the legal documents inside.

"You get half of nothing, my dear," he mocked, pulling a flash drive from his pocket.

"I transferred every single asset, property, and corporate share into an offshore trust this morning."

Evelyn simply smiled, her white suit glowing in the fiery Chicago sunset.

"I know you did," she replied softly.

She slid her phone across the table to him.

"That is why I reported you to the federal authorities for embezzling cartel funds."

Before Richard could react, the heavy oak doors of the elevator chimed again.

Three men in dark suits stepped into the penthouse holding suppressed weapons.

But they were not federal agents.

The lead gunman pointed his weapon directly at Evelyn and fired.
