Chapter 6 - The Fall and the Truth
Victor looked down at the speeding SUV directly beneath his dangling feet.
The helicopter was rising higher, and his grip on the freezing metal skid was rapidly failing.
Serena raised the heavy axe to deliver a final, fatal strike to his hands.
With no other choice left, Victor closed his eyes and let go of the aircraft.
He plummeted through the dark sky and crashed violently through the open sunroof of the SUV.
Victor landed heavily on the padded back seats, gasping for air as his vision blurred with pain.
Lily slammed on the brakes, bringing the massive vehicle to a screeching halt on the private road.
She climbed into the back seat to check on him, tears streaming down her soot-stained face.
"Are you okay, Victor?" Lily asked frantically as she checked his pulse.
Victor nodded slowly, pushing himself up despite the searing pain in his bruised ribs.
"We have to track that helicopter before she disappears with my son forever," Victor grunted.
Lily reached into her pocket and pulled out her smartphone.
"I slipped my GPS smartwatch into Ethan's diaper bag right before she snatched him," Lily revealed.
Victor looked at the young nanny with a mixture of shock and profound gratitude.
Lily opened the tracking app, showing a rapidly moving red dot heading toward the coastal cliffs.
"She is flying toward the abandoned private airfield near the old lighthouse," Victor deduced immediately.
He climbed into the driver's seat and pressed the gas pedal all the way to the floor.
As they sped down the winding coastal highway, Victor finally asked the question that had been haunting him.
"Why are you risking your life for a family that barely pays you attention?" Victor asked softly.
Lily looked out the window, her expression hardening with deep, unresolved sorrow.
"Because my real name is not Lily, it is Elena," she confessed quietly.

Victor slammed on the brakes, staring at her in complete disbelief.
"I am the younger sister of your late wife, the woman Serena murdered to take her place," Lily whispered.
