Chapter 5 - The Chase to the Sky

Victor stared in absolute horror at the helicopter landing on his pristine lawn.
He looked down at Lily and realized she was only holding Ethan’s empty blue blanket.
In the chaos of climbing out of the chute, Serena had ambushed them in the dark garden.
Serena had snatched the fourteen-month-old baby and was now running toward her escape.
Victor felt a surge of pure, violent adrenaline course through his veins.
He sprinted across the massive lawn, ignoring the burning pain in his lungs from the smoke inhalation.
"Serena, stop right there!" Victor roared over the deafening sound of the helicopter blades.
Serena turned around as she reached the open door of the sleek black aircraft.
She smiled wickedly and held the crying baby dangerously close to the spinning rotors.
"If I cannot have your fortune, I will just take your heir instead!" Serena screamed over the noise.
She climbed into the helicopter and slammed the heavy door shut.
Victor reached the landing pad just as the aircraft violently lifted off the ground.
He grabbed the metal landing skid with both hands, refusing to let the monster take his son.
The helicopter rapidly ascended, lifting Victor high into the night sky.
The freezing wind whipped against his face as his expensive shoes dangled fifty feet above the ground.
Inside the cabin, Serena looked out the window and saw Victor hanging on for his life.
She picked up an emergency fire axe mounted on the cabin wall.
Serena opened the side window and swung the heavy blade directly at Victor's desperate hands.
Victor shifted his weight just in time, allowing the axe to strike the metal skid instead of his fingers.
He knew he could not hold on much longer as the aircraft climbed higher into the clouds.
Suddenly, a massive spotlight illuminated the helicopter from below.
A black tactical SUV crashed through the mansion gates and sped directly beneath them.

Lily was behind the wheel, driving at breakneck speed across the uneven terrain to follow the aircraft.
She opened the sunroof and screamed for Victor to let go.
