Chapter 7 - The Desperate Blade

The sharp blade caught the light of the crystal chandeliers above us.
Christopher held Brenda in front of him like a human shield, pressing the knife to her throat.
Brenda sobbed hysterically, begging the man she loved not to hurt her.
Christopher yelled that he would kill her if anyone took another step toward him.
I stood perfectly still, looking at the pathetic man I had once promised to love.
I asked him if sixty eight million dollars was truly worth destroying our entire family.
He laughed like a maniac, claiming my father never respected him and he deserved the money.
He admitted he had been stealing from the corporate accounts for over five years.
Brenda cried out that she had no idea about the massive embezzlement scheme.
Christopher pressed the blade tighter against her skin, drawing a tiny drop of blood.
He told Brenda to shut up, calling her a worthless pawn in his grand master plan.
Luke walked up to stand beside me, holding his tablet firmly in his hands.
My son looked his father dead in the eye with absolute disgust.
Luke told Christopher that the sixty eight million dollars was already gone.
He had hacked the offshore accounts an hour ago and returned every single penny to the company.
Christopher screamed in pure agony, realizing he had lost absolutely everything.
He raised the knife and lunged wildly at Luke with murderous intent in his eyes.

Before he could reach my son, Brenda kicked Christopher as hard as she could in the knee.
The sudden pain caused him to stumble forward, dropping the switchblade onto the marble floor.
