Chapter 9 - The Dead Man's Switch

Nathan stood on the edge of the balcony, the cold wind blowing through his ruined white shirt.

He held the detonator switch tightly, his thumb resting dangerously close to the red button.

“If my thumb slips, this entire wing of the house turns into dust,” Nathan threatened.

He demanded that Marcello and his men drop their weapons and leave the estate immediately.

Marcello laughed, completely unbothered by the threat of being blown into tiny pieces.

But Dominic could not risk Harper’s life, so he ordered Marcello to back down.

Marcello cursed loudly, but he signaled his men to lower their rifles and step back into the hallway.

Dominic took a slow, calculated step toward his former best friend.

“You do not want to die, Nathan,” Dominic said smoothly, keeping his eyes locked on the traitor.

“I want to be a king,” Nathan screamed, his hands shaking violently with adrenaline.

Nathan demanded that Dominic sign over the remaining assets of the syndicate before he blew the house.

He tossed a folded document and an expensive fountain pen onto the floor between them.

Dominic slowly knelt down to pick up the paper, keeping his hands entirely visible.

He looked at Mia, communicating entirely through a silent, terrifying glance.

Mia understood instantly, her hand subtly reaching for a heavy silver paperweight on the desk.

Dominic stood up and pretended to read the document, stalling for a single precious second.

“You forgot one important detail, Nathan,” Dominic said quietly.

“What detail?” Nathan barked, stepping closer.

Dominic smiled coldly.

“Mia never misses.”

Mia threw the silver paperweight with blinding, terrifying speed.

It struck Nathan’s wrist with a sickening crunch, shattering his bones instantly.

Nathan screamed in agony, his hand opening in shock as the detonator slipped from his grasp.

Dominic lunged forward, catching the detonator perfectly in mid-air before the button could release.

He did not hesitate for a fraction of a second.

Dominic pulled his handgun and shot Nathan directly between the eyes.

Nathan’s lifeless body tumbled backward over the balcony rail, crashing into the stone courtyard far below.
