Chapter 8 - The Ghost of the Past

Dominic demanded that Mia wait for him to arrive with Marcello’s army.
But she hung up the phone, completely ignoring the terrifying mafia boss.
Dominic ordered Marcello’s driver to push the armored truck to its absolute maximum speed.
They tore through the dark country roads leading back to the Hudson Valley estate.
When they crashed through the front gates, the massive courtyard was strangely silent.
Dozens of Nathan’s heavily armed mercenaries were lying dead on the pristine green lawn.
They had all been eliminated with brutal, surgical precision.
Dominic stepped out of the truck, his assault rifle raised as he entered the grand foyer.
He found Claire Bennett lying at the bottom of the grand staircase, her neck cleanly snapped.
Marcello whistled in dark admiration as he surveyed the absolute carnage.
“Your maid is an incredibly dangerous woman,” Marcello noted, stepping over a dead guard.
Dominic rushed up the marble stairs, following the trail of bodies toward his private office.
He kicked the heavy oak doors open, ready to tear the room apart.
Mia was standing in the center of the office, holding a bloody combat knife.
She was dressed in black tactical gear she must have stolen from one of the dead guards.
Harper was safely locked inside the massive walk-in vault behind her.
“Who are you, Mia?” Dominic finally asked, lowering his weapon slowly.
Mia wiped the blood from her cheek and looked at him with absolute exhaustion.
She confessed that she used to be a deep-cover operative for a European intelligence agency.
She had gone into hiding years ago to protect Harper from her dangerous past.
She only took the job as a maid because Dominic’s heavily guarded estate was the safest place in America.
Before Dominic could fully process her incredible secret, a slow clapping echoed from the balcony.
Nathan stepped into the room from the terrace, holding a heavy detonator in his left hand.

He was wearing a massive vest entirely wired with military-grade C4 explosives.
“What a touching reunion,” Nathan laughed, his eyes wide with absolute madness.
