Chapter 3 - The Broken Vows

Claire wore a stunning silk robe that completely contrasted with the ugly weapon in her hand.
Her beautiful face was twisted into a mask of pure, bitter hatred.
“I told Nathan to just shoot the child first,” Claire sneered, stepping closer.
Dominic slowly stepped in front of Harper, shielding the little girl with his own body.
“Why are you doing this, Claire?” Dominic asked, keeping his voice dangerously calm.
“Because you were never going to make me your true partner,” she spat back.
Claire confessed that her family’s business was completely bankrupt.
She had only agreed to marry Dominic to access his offshore syndicates.
Nathan had approached her months ago with a brilliant plan to take over the entire empire.
With Dominic dead, Nathan would take the throne, and Claire would get half the fortune as the grieving widow.
“Mia had to die because she found the ledger,” Claire laughed cruelly.
Dominic frowned, risking a quick glance back at the bruised maid.
“What ledger?” Dominic demanded.
Claire's smile widened as she cocked the hammer of the silver revolver.
“The ledger proving that Nathan paid the mechanic to cut the brakes on your first wife’s car.”
The revelation hit Dominic like a physical blow to the chest.
Nathan had murdered the only woman Dominic had ever truly loved.
The grief and rage instantly transformed Dominic into a deadly weapon.
He threw his heavy metal flashlight directly at Claire’s face with blinding speed.
The flashlight shattered her nose, causing her to scream and drop the gun.
Dominic lunged forward, knocking her unconscious with a single, brutal punch.
He threw Mia and Harper into the back seat of the armored Mercedes and jumped behind the wheel.
The engine roared to life as he smashed the car straight through the closed garage doors.
They sped away into the dark forest just as Nathan's heavily armed mercenaries flooded the driveway.

Dominic checked the rearview mirror to make sure they were not being followed.
But when he looked over at Mia, she was bleeding heavily from a gunshot wound in her side.
