Chapter 8 - The Ticking Clock

Hale pointed his gun directly at Hannah while holding the detonator high in the air.
"You really should have stayed a quiet little maid," Hale spat with absolute disgust.
Grant aimed his weapon at Hale, but he could not risk hitting Hannah in the dangerous crossfire.
Emma bravely broke free from the struggle and ran toward her father with tears streaming down her face.
Grant caught his beautiful daughter with one arm, shielding her entirely from the pointed weapons.
Caroline aggressively kicked Hannah off of her and scrambled hastily to her feet.
"Press the button right now, Vernon!" Caroline ordered hysterically.
"Let us finish this pathetic game once and for all."
Hale hesitated nervously, realizing he was standing directly on the very bomb he was supposed to detonate.
Caroline grew absolutely furious and shot Hale squarely in the chest with a hidden silver derringer.
Hale collapsed to the deck, dropping the detonator onto the wooden boards.
Caroline snatched it up rapidly before Grant could even attempt to intervene.
She pressed her thumb firmly against the red button with a manic, unhinged laugh.
The yacht's emergency lockdown system activated instantly with a loud, mechanical grinding noise.
Heavy steel doors slammed shut aggressively across all the designated exits.

A cold, robotic voice echoed loudly from the ship's overhead speakers.
"Explosive sequence initiated, detonation will occur in exactly two minutes."
