Chapter 5 - The Darkness Fights Back

Hannah stood completely paralyzed by the ultimate, heartbreaking betrayal of her husband.
Mark placed his finger firmly on the trigger without showing a single hint of remorse.
Grant relied entirely on his sharp survival instincts and his rapidly returning, blurry vision.
He grabbed a heavy steel oxygen tank and hurled it directly at the fragile ceiling lights.
The entire clinic plunged into total, pitch-black darkness.
Hale and his heavily armed men shouted in confusion as their massive tactical advantage vanished.
Grant had lived successfully in the dark for five long, miserable years.
He moved like a lethal phantom across the cramped, cluttered clinic floor.
He snapped the neck of the first gunman before the man could even raise his weapon.
He drove a sharp surgical bone saw deeply into the chest of the second attacker.
Mark fired his assault rifle wildly into the darkness, narrowly missing little Lucy.
Grant violently tackled Mark to the ground and pinned his throat aggressively to the cold floor.
"Please," Mark gasped desperately while struggling to breathe.
"Emma is waiting for her daddy at Pier 17."
Grant froze completely at the shocking sound of his daughter's name.
Mark used the momentary distraction to pull a hidden combat knife from his boot.
Hannah stepped out of the shadows and smashed a heavy red fire extinguisher over Mark's head.

Mark slumped to the floor, permanently neutralized by his own wife.
Grant quickly scanned the room, but Vernon Hale had already escaped through the shattered doorway into the night.
