Chapter 6 - The Ghost Ship

Grant stood up slowly and blinked rapidly against the harsh streetlights bleeding into the clinic.
His vision was sharpening quickly into crisp, high-definition reality.
He looked closely at Hannah and saw her beautiful, fiercely brave face for the very first time.
He looked down at little Lucy, the brilliant toddler who had miraculously saved his life with a cheap toy flashlight.
"We are going to Pier 17 right now," Grant said with a deadly, uncompromising calm.
They quickly hotwired a stolen vehicle abandoned in the alleyway behind the clinic.
Grant gripped the leather steering wheel, marveling at the bright neon lights of the city he had missed so much.
He drove like an absolute madman toward the desolate waterfront district.
They violently breached the rusted gates of Pier 17 and found a massive, luxury yacht docked securely in the shadows.
Grant told Hannah and Lucy to hide safely behind a stack of wooden cargo crates.
He retrieved a fully loaded pistol from the vehicle's glove compartment and checked the safety.
He walked slowly up the metal ramp of the yacht, pretending to tap his white cane on the grates.
Daniel Cross was standing confidently on the upper deck with a smug, victorious smile.
Daniel was aggressively holding a terrified nine-year-old girl by her dark hair.
It was Emma, looking exactly like the beautiful mother she had been separated from.
The heavy cabin door opened slowly, and a woman wearing an elegant red dress walked out into the moonlight.

Caroline Mercer smiled wickedly down at her supposedly blind husband.
"You always were too stubborn to die gracefully, Grant," Caroline mocked with a cruel laugh.
