Chapter 10 - The Locket

Grant hit the freezing water and swam desperately toward the safety of the nearby wooden dock.

He surfaced just as a massive, blinding fireball erupted violently from the luxury yacht.

The catastrophic explosion ripped the steel vessel to shreds, completely incinerating Caroline and the betrayal she represented.

Grant pulled himself exhausted onto the wooden pier, gasping for air as the intense heat washed over his face.

Hannah, Emma, and Lucy were already huddled closely together on the dock, shivering but entirely unharmed.

Grant wrapped his strong arms around all three of them, finally crying genuine tears of absolute joy.

The horrific nightmare that had haunted him for five years was permanently and completely destroyed.

Over the next few months, Grant ruthlessly purged the remaining traitors from his criminal empire and solidified his absolute control.

He legally adopted little Lucy and married Hannah in a beautiful, private ceremony overlooking the peaceful ocean.

His vision remained perfectly sharp, allowing him to watch his daughters grow up in a safe, incredibly happy home.

The darkness had finally been banished from Grant Mercer's life forever.

One quiet evening, Grant was gently tucking Emma into her warm bed after reading her a bedtime story.

Emma smiled innocently and handed him a heavy, ornate silver locket she had been hiding.

She told him that her mother had given it to her just minutes before dying on the burning yacht.

Grant pried the locket open and found a tiny microchip that projected a glowing, blue hologram of Caroline's face.

The digital phantom smiled wickedly and whispered that the woman who burned today was only a decoy, and the real nightmare was just beginning.
