Chapter 9 - The Poisoned Pen
Elena smiled wickedly, completely unfazed by their miraculous escape from the massive explosion.
She explained that she had guarded the only known exit just in case they managed to survive the blast.
"Victor is already loading the gold onto the private jet, and I am going to join him right now," Elena gloated.
She firmly demanded that Lucas hand over the encrypted flash drive hidden deeply in his pocket.
Lucas slowly reached into his torn tuxedo jacket, keeping his eyes completely locked on her deadly weapon.
"You really think you can completely outsmart the federal government?" Lucas asked calmly.
Elena laughed coldly and cocked the heavy hammer of the suppressed pistol.
"The local police chief works directly for Victor, so nobody is coming to save you," she boasted loudly.
Lucas completely ignored her threat and pulled the small, silver flash drive from his pocket.
Instead of tossing it to her, he aggressively crushed the fragile plastic completely beneath his heavy heel.
Elena screamed in pure fury and aimed the gun directly at Mia's fragile head.
"I will kill her right now!" Elena roared, completely losing her elegant, calculated composure.
Before she could pull the trigger, a massive black SUV aggressively crashed completely through the alleyway fence.
The heavy vehicle violently struck Elena, sending her completely flying across the wet pavement.
Her expensive pistol clattered harmlessly away into the dark, filthy storm drain.
The doors of the SUV burst completely open, revealing dozens of heavily armed federal FBI agents.
Lucas smiled gently, completely knowing that he had successfully transmitted the files to the FBI hours ago from the bridal suite.
The corrupt local police chief had been completely bypassed by the highest level of federal authority.
The federal agents violently dragged the screaming, cursing Elena aggressively up from the hard asphalt.

Another team of agents completely surrounded the nearby private airport and successfully captured Victor before he could escape.
Lucas immediately fell entirely to his knees and pulled his mother and daughter into a deeply desperate embrace.
