Chapter 8 - The Desperate Deal

The glowing red timer on the explosive charge aggressively ticked down to exactly eight minutes.

Lucas desperately searched every single inch of the massive vault for any possible escape route.

The thick steel walls were entirely impenetrable and completely soundproof from the outside world.

Mia huddled closely against her grandmother, crying softly as the terrifying reality truly set in.

Lucas noticed a small, highly rusted ventilation grate hidden completely behind a stack of safety deposit boxes.

He quickly grabbed a heavy gold bar and smashed it fiercely against the rusted metal screws.

The grate finally gave way, revealing a deeply dark, incredibly narrow maintenance tunnel.

"This tunnel leads directly to the old city sewer system," Lucas explained quickly to his terrified family.

He lifted his mother safely into the dark tunnel and gently helped Mia crawl directly behind her.

The digital explosive timer aggressively reached exactly two terrifying minutes.

Lucas squeezed his massive shoulders entirely into the tight, claustrophobic space.

They crawled frantically through the thick dust and absolute darkness, completely driven by pure adrenaline.

The tunnel grew perfectly narrower, severely scratching their arms and legs as they desperately pushed forward.

Suddenly, a massive, deafening explosion violently shook the entire underground foundation of the hotel.

The incredibly powerful shockwave completely collapsed the heavy tunnel directly behind Lucas's feet.

Thick, suffocating dust entirely filled the small space, making it nearly impossible to breathe.

Lucas pushed forward blindly until he finally saw a faint glimmer of moonlight shining through a heavy street grate.

He aggressively pushed the heavy iron cover entirely out of the way and climbed up onto the wet asphalt.

He reached down and successfully pulled his coughing mother and crying daughter safely up to the surface.

They had miraculously survived the deadly blast perfectly without a single second to spare.

But as they stood up on the empty city street, a dark shadow entirely blocked the pale moonlight.

Elena was standing directly in front of them, proudly pointing a suppressed pistol straight at Lucas's heart.
