Chapter 10 - The Unfinished Business

Claire stared at the terrifying photograph with a sense of absolute paralyzing horror.

The picture proved that the tragic car accident that killed Alejandro's wife was actually a highly planned assassination.

She turned the faded photograph over with trembling fingers to see if there was any writing on the back.

Written in fresh dark ink was a chilling message that said the job was only half done.

Someone had secretly planted this threatening message inside Emma's backpack during the chaotic lockdown at the estate.

It meant that the true mastermind behind the assassination was still alive and actively hunting them.

Claire immediately picked up her secure phone and dialed Alejandro to warn him about the hidden threat.

Alejandro answered on the first ring and listened to her terrifying discovery with deadly silence.

He assured Claire that he would double the security around their safe house within the next five minutes.

He hung up the phone and walked over to his massive wooden desk with a renewed sense of dark purpose.

He had successfully defeated his traitorous brother and saved the new family he had sworn to protect.

The massive syndicate was fully under his absolute control and his enemies were currently running in fear.

He looked at the peaceful sunny garden outside his window where Emma used to play with her dolls.

He knew that he had won a massive victory and secured a truly happy ending for the innocent mother and child.

They would live like royalty and never have to worry about rent or dangerous men ever again.

The peace they had fought so brutally to achieve was beautiful and entirely well deserved.

He smiled softly as he thought about the brave little girl who had given him a second chance at life.

But his sharp eyes suddenly caught a faint red laser dot resting perfectly on the center of his chest.

He dove aggressively to the floor just as a high caliber sniper bullet shattered the thick bulletproof glass of his window.

A ringing phone on his desk displayed an unknown caller ID, signaling that the real war had only just begun.
