Chapter 9 - The Devil's Bargain

Sirens blared loudly throughout the underground bunker.

I grabbed a portable oxygen tank and strapped a mask tightly to my face.

I ran down the sterile hallway and burst into Declan’s recovery room.

He was already awake, ripping the bloody IV tubes out of his arms with a furious grunt.

He strapped an oxygen mask to his own face and grabbed two loaded pistols from a drawer.

He grabbed my hand, and we fought our way toward the emergency elevator shaft.

The poisonous gas was thick, burning my eyes and clouding our vision completely.

We finally reached the surface level, coughing violently as the elevator doors opened to the night air.

Marcus Calloway, Savannah’s ruthless father, was waiting outside with fifty heavily armed men.

Marcus laughed darkly and pointed a golden gun directly at my pregnant stomach.

"Drop your weapons, Voss," Marcus ordered with a sick smile.

Declan stepped in front of me, slowly dropping his pistols to the ground.

"Take my empire, take my territory, and take my life," Declan pleaded, holding his hands up.

"Just let Amelia and my child walk away."

Marcus smiled cruelly and shook his head.

"I want your empire, and I want your bloodline completely erased," Marcus sneered.

He pulled the trigger of the golden gun.

A loud gunshot echoed through the trees, but it did not come from Marcus.

Marcus dropped dead to the dirt with a massive bullet hole in his head.

Gavin Roarke stepped out of the shadows, holding a smoking sniper rifle.
