Chapter 9 - The Collapse

Genevieve backed away from Julian as if he were made of fire. Her face drained of all color, the aristocratic mask completely shattered, revealing the panicked, desperate con artist beneath.
"That... that's a fake!" she shrieked, pointing at the speakers. "He altered it! He's trying to ruin me!"
No one believed her. The society wives, the investors, the senators—they all stared at her with absolute, unfiltered disgust.
"You ruined yourself, Genevieve," Julian said, his voice cold and merciless. "You tried to break my daughter to secure my money. But as of this morning, you don't have any money."
Genevieve froze. "What?"
"The Trust documents you signed," Julian stepped closer, his physical presence dominating her. "You didn't read the fine print. You gave me legal authorization to liquidate your Cayman accounts. I gave every single cent of your stolen millions to charity. You are entirely bankrupt."
Genevieve let out a feral, guttural scream and lunged at Julian, her nails bared.
She didn't make it two steps. The heavy oak doors of the ballroom burst open. Six federal agents and NYPD officers marched into the room. They grabbed Genevieve, slamming her arms behind her back and snapping cold steel handcuffs around her wrists.

"Genevieve Vance, you are under arrest for federal wire fraud, extortion, and visa manipulation," the lead detective announced.
As they dragged her kicking and screaming out of the ballroom, her crimson gown dragging on the marble floor, Julian turned his back on her. He didn't feel triumph. He just felt clean.
