Chapter 4 - The Breach

Prescott's eyes were completely devoid of any remorse.
He kept the weapon perfectly steady, pointing directly at my heart.
"You sold out my dying children for money?" I asked, my voice dripping with pure venom.
Prescott smirked and slowly shook his head.
"It was never about just the money, Lawson."
He confessed that he had secretly been working for Crosby Vane since before Genevieve even died.
"Vane needs the twins alive to harvest their blood, which is why I induced their leukemia in the first place," he revealed.
The horrific truth hit me like a physical blow.
My children were not naturally sick.
Prescott had been slowly poisoning them to weaken their immune systems for Vane's medical team.
Pure, unadulterated rage completely consumed my entire being.
I did not care if I took a bullet to the chest.
I lunged forward with terrifying speed, grabbing the hot barrel of his silenced pistol.
The gun fired, grazing my shoulder, but I ignored the searing pain entirely.
I slammed Prescott against the steel server racks, knocking the weapon from his grasp.
I wrapped my hands around his throat, fully intending to choke the life out of him.
Suddenly, the massive mansion shuddered violently as a deafening explosion echoed from the front gates.
The security monitors instantly switched to static.
Crosby Vane's tactical heavily armed strike team had just breached my perimeter walls.

Prescott laughed through his bloody teeth as he gasped for air.
"You are too late, Lawson, the extraction team is already inside the house," he choked out.
