Chapter 10 - The Happy Ending

I dropped the weapon and scrambled into the back of the wrecked medical van.

Clara had regained consciousness and was already performing frantic chest compressions on Blythe.

Despite her own extreme exhaustion from the marrow donation, Clara refused to give up.

"Come on, sweetheart, stay with me!" Clara pleaded through her tears.

I grabbed the emergency defibrillator paddles, charged them, and placed them on my daughter's chest.

"Clear!" I shouted, delivering a desperate shock to her fragile body.

A single, beautiful beep echoed from the monitor, followed by a steady, rhythmic pulse.

Blythe took a deep, shuddering breath and slowly opened her eyes.

I collapsed to my knees, weeping tears of absolute, overwhelming relief.

The nightmare was finally over.

My security team arrived moments later to arrest Dr. Yates and secure the rest of the estate.

Over the next six months, the newly transplanted bone marrow worked an absolute miracle.

Jonah and Blythe recovered rapidly, their cheeks flushing with healthy color and their laughter filling the mansion once again.

Clara moved into the east wing permanently, becoming the beloved aunt and protector they desperately needed.

I completely dismantled Crosby Vane's organization and retired from the criminal underworld to focus entirely on my family.

We spent our days in the sunlit gardens, far away from the darkness that had nearly destroyed us.

Everything was finally safe, peaceful, and absolutely perfect.

We walked out to the garden one afternoon to watch the twins play in the grass.

Then my private, encrypted cell phone vibrated with an unknown number.

I opened the new text message.

It was a recent photo of my late wife, Genevieve, holding today's newspaper with a terrifying caption that read: "I am coming back to take my children."
