Chapter 4 - The Broken Water

The blinding flash of white light and the deafening crack of the grenade sent Julian stumbling backward into the hallway.

I did not waste a single millisecond to admire my handiwork.

I sprinted toward the balcony, diving over the stone railing and deploying a specialized grappling line to slow my descent.

I hit the manicured lawn rolling, disappearing into the dark tree line before his blinded guards could even fire their weapons.

I reached my hidden extraction vehicle and immediately contacted my old tactical team, scattered across the globe.

I told them the timeline had completely collapsed and we were going to war at dawn.

My plan was to intercept Julian's private ambulance on the highway before it ever reached the hospital.

I tracked Clara's cell phone signal, waiting desperately for the ambulance to leave the heavily fortified estate.

But the tracking beacon suddenly went completely dark.

Julian had found her phone and crushed it, effectively blinding my entire operation.

Panic clawed at my throat as I frantically hacked into the city's traffic camera network to find their transport.

Suddenly, a massive, armored medical transport vehicle sped out of the estate gates, flanked by two black SUVs.

Julian wasn't taking her in a normal ambulance.

He was using a heavily armored convoy designed to withstand military-grade assaults.

I slammed on the gas of my interceptor vehicle, tearing down the empty highway to catch up to the convoy.

I pulled alongside the armored transport, preparing to blow the tires and force them off the road.

Just as I aimed my weapon out the window, I saw Clara through the reinforced glass of the transport.

She was strapped to a medical gurney, screaming in absolute agony as her water broke naturally.

The stress of the labor-inducing drug had caused massive medical complications, and she was bleeding heavily.

If I crashed the convoy now, the trauma of the accident would instantly kill both Clara and the baby.

Julian sat perfectly calm beside her, staring right at me through the bulletproof glass with a triumphant, mocking wave.

He knew I was completely paralyzed by my daughter's critical medical condition.

I had no choice but to lower my weapon and follow them directly into his heavily fortified hospital.

I was driving straight into the deadliest trap of my entire life.
