Chapter 6 - The Executive Vault

My mother aimed the heavy shotgun directly at my chest without a single ounce of hesitation or maternal love.

She coldly ordered me to place the baby on the large mahogany desk and step away immediately.

I refused to move, desperately trying to appeal to whatever tiny shred of humanity she might have left inside her.

She simply mocked my weakness and admitted that she had never actually wanted a second child.

She explained that she only kept me around because my pristine military record made me the perfect cover for their money laundering.

I slowly raised my hands in a gesture of absolute surrender while calculating the exact distance between us.

I noticed a small, blinking red light on the ceiling directly above her meticulously styled hair.

It was an active fire suppression sprinkler connected to the building's emergency chemical safety grid.

I casually asked her how Marcus planned to retrieve the money if the master ledger was ever destroyed.

My mother laughed and proudly stated that the ledger was currently safe inside the fireproof vault behind her.

Her arrogant boasting completely confirmed the exact location of the evidence I desperately needed to end this nightmare.

I quickly reached into my pocket and pulled out a small, metallic cigarette lighter I had found in the stolen car.

I threw the ignited lighter directly into a nearby metal trash can filled entirely with shredded paper documents.

The dry paper instantly caught fire, sending a massive plume of thick black smoke billowing up toward the ceiling.

The heat sensors triggered immediately, and the emergency fire suppression system violently activated across the entire room.

Thick, blinding white Halon gas sprayed aggressively from the ceiling, instantly completely obscuring my mother's vision.

She coughed violently and blindly fired the shotgun, the heavy blast completely missing me and shattering the office window.

I used the chaotic distraction to sprint past her and forcefully punch the security code into the hidden wall vault.

The heavy steel door swung open, and I quickly grabbed the black encrypted hard drive containing all their secrets.

I securely tucked the drive into my jacket and ran out of the office while my mother struggled to breathe in the gas.

I rushed down the emergency stairwell and burst out into the underground parking garage to secure my escape.

But as I reached my stolen car, Victoria abruptly pulled her luxury SUV directly into my path, aggressively blocking the exit.
