Chapter 5 - The Forgotten Heir

The deafening roar of heavy engines echoed through the narrow alleyway.

Armed mercenaries poured out of the black trucks with assault rifles raised.

Daniel shouted for Emily to get down as a hail of bullets shattered the windshield.

Glass rained down on them fiercely as Daniel threw the SUV into reverse.

He slammed the gas pedal and crashed violently into a large metal dumpster behind them.

The impact provided just enough space for him to spin the heavy vehicle around.

Daniel drove the SUV straight toward a chain-link fence on the side of the alley.

The heavy car smashed through the metal barrier and launched onto the adjacent street.

They sped frantically away into the night while leaving the mercenaries far behind.

Emily was shaking violently as she brushed the shattered glass from her hair.

She realized Vanessa possessed far more deadly power than anyone had ever imagined.

Daniel navigated the dark roads rapidly toward the edge of the sprawling Blackwood estate.

He parked the ruined vehicle deep within the dense forest surrounding the property.

They quietly hiked through the muddy woods until they reached the edge of the lake.

The old wooden boathouse sat beautifully on the water, glowing with bright party lights.

Dozens of wealthy guests were laughing and drinking champagne on the massive wooden deck.

Armed guards patrolled the dark perimeter with serious expressions and heavy weapons.

Daniel whispered his tactical plan to Emily while crouching behind a thick oak tree.

He would create a massive distraction to draw the guards away from the main entrance.

Emily was tasked with slipping inside to find the ledger hidden in the wall panels.

She nervously agreed and watched Daniel disappear quietly into the dark shadows.

Minutes later, a massive explosion rocked the far side of the estate's sprawling gardens.

Flames shot wildly into the night sky, sending the wealthy guests into a blind panic.

The security guards immediately abandoned their posts and sprinted heavily toward the fire.

Emily seized the perfect opportunity and ran quickly across the wooden docks.

She slipped through the back door of the boathouse and entered the dim storage room.

She frantically knocked on the wooden wall panels until she found one that sounded completely hollow.

She used the butt of her stolen gun to violently smash the thin wood to pieces.

A small metal safe was hidden perfectly inside the dark cavity of the wall.

Just as she reached out to grab it, the storage room lights snapped on violently.

Vanessa stood gracefully in the doorway with a suppressed pistol aimed directly at Emily.
