Chapter 1 - The Second Setup
The silence in the grand foyer was completely deafening.
Every wealthy guest stared at the massive security screen in absolute disbelief.
The black and white footage looping on the monitor proved Vanessa was the real thief.
Emily stood frozen in her simple housekeeping uniform while clutching her burning cheek.
Tears streamed down her pale face as she struggled to process the sudden vindication.
Daniel stepped forward and stared at his beautiful fiancée with utter disgust.
He demanded to know why Vanessa would do something so unbelievably cruel to an innocent worker.
Vanessa lowered her head as all the color drained from her flawless skin.
She looked completely defeated under the harsh glare of the crystal chandelier.
But then her delicate shoulders began to shake.
She was not crying.
She was laughing.
Vanessa slowly lifted her head and offered a terrifyingly cold smile.
She confidently walked over to the oversized brown leather handbag resting on the table.
She reached inside the open zipper and pulled out the extravagant diamond necklace.
With a sudden and violent twist of her wrist, she snapped the expensive necklace in half.
The guests gasped in horror as the heavy stones hit the marble floor.
But the stones did not sound like real diamonds at all.
They shattered instantly into cheap pieces of broken glass.
Vanessa turned to Daniel with a wicked gleam in her dark eyes.
She explained that the necklace in the video was just a worthless replica she used as a test.
She pointed a perfectly manicured finger directly at Emily's trembling chest.
She calmly stated that the real million-dollar diamond necklace was still missing.
Vanessa loudly declared that the camera only showed her planting a fake piece of jewelry.
She accused Emily of switching the real diamonds before the party even started.
Daniel frowned deeply and turned his intense gaze back to the terrified housekeeper.
Emily shook her head frantically and swore she had never touched the real diamonds.
But Daniel was no longer looking at her face.
He was staring intently at the bulging front pocket of Emily's uniform apron.
Something heavy and metallic was gleaming slightly under the thin grey fabric.
Daniel reached out and pulled the object from her pocket for everyone to see.
It was the real diamond necklace.
Emily gasped in sheer horror, realizing Vanessa had slipped it into her pocket when she slapped her.
Vanessa crossed her arms and smiled victoriously at the crowd.
She softly told Daniel to call the police immediately.
Daniel pulled his phone from his tailored suit jacket and dialed emergency services.
