Chapter 9 - The Resurrection

A collective, synchronized scream of absolute terror echoed through the funeral parlor as the guests stared at what they believed was a ghost.
Julian froze mid-step, his eyes bulging entirely out of his skull as he stared at my living, breathing body.
I slowly locked the brakes on my wheelchair, planted my feet firmly on the carpet, and miraculously stood up under my own power.
The room fell completely, terrifyingly silent as I took three slow, deliberate steps toward my murderous husband.
I loudly announced to the entire congregation that my husband was a manipulative, parasitic monster who had systematically poisoned me for months.
I turned my piercing gaze to Serena, mocking her cheap perfume and thanking her for measuring my windows, because it gave me the absolute clarity I needed to destroy them both.
Arthur stepped back up to the microphone, officially declaring that the house, the luxury cars, and the massive bank accounts now belonged exclusively to the animal rescue foundation.
He looked directly at Julian and Serena, calmly informing them that they were currently trespassing on private, charitable property.
The two police officers finally snapped out of their shock, drawing their weapons and marching directly toward Julian.
They roughly twisted his arms behind his back, snapping the heavy steel handcuffs tightly onto his wrists as he sobbed pathetically.
Serena tried to crawl away through the crowd, but a female guest purposefully stuck out her foot, sending the mistress crashing onto the polished hardwood floor.
As the officers dragged them toward the exit, Julian began laughing hysterically, his mind completely snapping under the weight of his absolute failure.

He looked over his shoulder, locking eyes with me as he was shoved into the pouring rain.
He screamed that the dangerous men he owed money to would never stop hunting me down.
