Chapter 1 - The Digital Blueprint

The metallic snap of Serena's measuring tape echoed in my mind long after she and Julian left my sterile master bedroom.

I lay trapped inside my own failing body, staring up at the specialized medical monitor hovering above my face.

For months, Julian believed I was completely brain-dead, a tragic vegetable simply waiting for the inevitable end.

He had no idea that my mind was perfectly intact, or that my eyes could still control the highly advanced tracking software built into the screen.

I blinked deliberately, opening a secure, encrypted communication portal that connected directly to my estate lawyer, Arthur Vance.

Arthur was a ruthless, brilliant attorney who had helped me build my architectural empire from the ground up.

I rapidly blinked out a desperate message, instructing him to immediately liquidate my assets and transfer everything to the city's largest animal rescue foundation.

I wanted Julian and his cheap mistress to be left with absolutely nothing but the clothes on their backs.

A few agonizing minutes passed before Arthur's reply flashed across my screen.

He confirmed that the paperwork was ready, but he delivered a devastating legal technicality that made my blood run cold.

Because of my current medical state, a digital signature was no longer legally binding in our jurisdiction.

Arthur stated that I needed to provide a physical, biometric thumbprint to a licensed notary, or Julian would inherit everything by default.

My heart monitor spiked frantically as the heavy bedroom door suddenly clicked open again.

Serena stepped back into the room alone, holding a heavy feather pillow and staring at my face with a terrifying, predatory smile.
