Chapter 6 - The Cold Water

Dominic did not waste a single second answering the traitor's taunts.

He hurled the heavy phone far out into the freezing, dark water of the harbor.

He grabbed two life vests from the storage compartment and strapped one tightly around Mia.

He threw the second vest to Anna and ordered her to jump immediately.

The three of them dove blindly into the freezing, violent currents of the East River.

Less than three seconds later, the speedboat detonated in a massive fireball.

The explosive shockwave pushed them deep beneath the freezing surface of the water.

Dominic kicked fiercely, holding his daughter tightly against his chest as they broke the surface gasping for air.

The blazing wreckage of the boat illuminated the dark, empty harbor around them.

They swam exhaustingly toward a muddy, abandoned industrial pier on the Brooklyn shoreline.

Dominic dragged himself onto the rotting wood, shivering violently in the bitter cold.

Mia was crying silently, her tiny hands gripping his soaked shirt with desperate strength.

Anna pulled herself onto the dock, coughing up dark, polluted river water.

She looked at Dominic and nodded toward a rusted, abandoned warehouse at the end of the pier.

They broke the rusty padlock and slipped inside the dark, echoing building to hide.

Dominic found a dusty tarp to wrap around his freezing daughter to keep her warm.

He realized Marco now believed they were completely dead at the bottom of the river.

This gave them the ultimate tactical advantage to infiltrate the asylum undetected.

Suddenly, the heavy metal doors of the warehouse violently crashed open.

Dozens of laser sights pierced the darkness, resting directly on Dominic's chest.
