Chapter 9 - The Broken Strings

A dozen heavily armed tactical officers surrounded Eleanor's massive gated estate.

The captain used a heavy battering ram to smash through the front mahogany doors.

I followed closely behind the strike team with my heart hammering wildly in my chest.

The luxurious mansion was completely silent and eerily dark inside.

We cleared the massive living room and the dining hall without finding a single person.

I heard a faint and familiar whimper coming from the second-floor master suite.

I broke away from the tactical team and sprinted up the sweeping marble staircase.

I kicked open the heavy bedroom door and froze completely in my tracks.

My son was lying perfectly safe inside a massive antique wooden crib in the corner.

My wife was standing directly over the crib holding a terrifyingly large medical syringe.

Eleanor was sitting in a velvet armchair barking vicious orders at her trembling daughter.

The older woman demanded that Sarah finish the job before the police arrived.

Sarah looked down at our innocent baby and then slowly looked over at her abusive mother.

The lifetime of cruel psychological conditioning finally shattered completely in Sarah's mind.

She realized her mother was the true monster who had forced her to hurt her own children.

Sarah let out a blood-curdling scream and spun around with the heavy syringe in her hand.

She lunged violently across the room and tackled her mother out of the velvet chair.

Sarah raised the needle high into the air and brought it down toward Eleanor's chest.

The tactical officers burst into the room and tackled both women heavily to the hardwood floor.

I did not care about the violent struggle happening just a few feet away from me.

I dropped to my knees beside the crib and scooped my crying baby into my arms.
