Chapter 7 - The Devil's Deal

The heavy metal handcuffs bit deeply into my wrists as they shoved me into the police cruiser.
I screamed that this was a complete setup and that my wife was trying to kill our son.
Detective Reynolds simply ignored me and slammed the car door shut in my face.
They drove me to the precinct and threw me into a cold concrete holding cell.
I paced the tiny room for hours knowing that every passing second put my baby in more danger.
The heavy steel door finally clanked open and a sympathetic young guard stepped inside.
He did not say a word as he slipped a sleek smartphone into my shackled hands.
The screen was already connected to an active video call waiting for me to answer.
I tapped the green button and Eleanor's cold face filled the bright digital screen.
She was sitting in her lavish home office sipping a glass of expensive red wine.
Eleanor calmly offered me a terrifying ultimatum to resolve this messy family drama.
She promised that my son would live a long and healthy life under her strict supervision.
In exchange I had to sign a full written confession taking the blame for everything.
I had to confess to poisoning my own son and brutally attacking both my wife and the social worker.
Eleanor said if I tried to fight these false charges my son would simply disappear forever.
I stared at the screen and realized she was absolutely arrogant enough to believe she had won.
She did not realize that I had spent the last five years building smart home software for a living.
I looked directly into the camera and told her I needed one hour to think about her generous offer.

I ended the call and banged my fists violently against the steel door to summon the guard.
I demanded to speak with the precinct captain because I had proof of absolute police corruption.
