Chapter 2 - The Blue Light

The harsh fluorescent lights of the hospital hallway buzzed above my head.
I stared at the doctor in absolute horror as the reality of his words sank in.
My wife had not just been violently force-feeding our infant son.
She had been systematically poisoning him with a dangerous sedative for weeks.
I immediately demanded to speak with the police officers assigned to the domestic disturbance.
Detective Reynolds walked into the waiting area with a grim expression on his face.
I frantically explained the older bruises and the shocking toxicology report.
I told him about the hidden smart camera mounted above our breakfast nook.
I begged the detective to send a unit back to the house to retrieve the memory card.
That camera would have recorded every single time she fed him in that kitchen.
Reynolds nodded and stepped out into the corridor to make an urgent phone call.
I paced the sterile waiting room while praying my son would wake up soon.
A child protection worker named Brenda arrived to ask me more invasive questions.
I recounted every strange illness and unexplained red mark I had blindly accepted before tonight.
Brenda wrote everything down with a deeply concerning look in her eyes.
Detective Reynolds finally returned to the waiting room with his hands tucked into his pockets.
He told me the patrol unit had successfully secured the kitchen crime scene.
They located the small blue camera exactly where I said it would be.
I let out a heavy sigh of relief thinking the nightmare was finally over.
My relief vanished the moment Reynolds shook his head.

The detective explained that the entire memory card had been physically ripped out of the device.
Someone else had entered our locked house while we were riding in the ambulances.
