Chapter 7 - The Digital Breach

The massive, flashing red warning on my computer screen indicated a severe, highly aggressive cybersecurity breach.
Someone was actively attempting to hack into my hidden cloud server and permanently delete every single surveillance video.
I frantically typed in my emergency encryption codes, desperately trying to lock down the massive digital firewall.
My fingers flew across the keyboard as I initiated a complete, secure download of the video files directly to an external hard drive.
The progress bar crawled agonizingly slowly, taunting me as the hostile hacker continued to violently attack the system.
I realized that Greg must have hired a professional cyber-mercenary to erase the evidence of his affair and corporate fraud.
With only ninety percent of the files downloaded, the screen violently flickered and suddenly went completely black.
My heart stopped beating entirely, fearing that I had just lost the absolute only proof of their horrific crimes.
A few agonizing seconds later, the external hard drive beeped brightly, signaling a completely successful, isolated transfer.
I let out a massive sigh of relief, quickly unplugging the drive and hiding it securely inside my tailored suit jacket.
I walked upstairs to the grand dining room, where Vanessa was busily directing the expensive catering staff.
The massive oak table was flawlessly set with fine crystal, sterling silver, and breathtaking floral arrangements.
"Everything must look absolutely perfect for our prestigious guests tonight," Vanessa commanded a terrified waiter.
I quietly approached the massive, eighty-inch smart television mounted elegantly on the living room wall.
I stealthily plugged a small, completely invisible wireless receiver into the back of the television panel.
This device would allow me to instantly broadcast the contents of my hidden hard drive directly from my smartphone.
The doorbell rang precisely at seven o'clock, signaling the arrival of the city's most elite socialites and our closest family members.
Greg walked through the door wearing an incredibly expensive tuxedo, smiling warmly as he handed my wife a bouquet of flowers.
He completely believed that his forged contracts were legally binding because he hadn't yet realized the ink had vanished.
I greeted everyone with a polite, humble smile, perfectly playing the role of the financially ruined, utterly defeated husband.
The guests whispered quietly amongst themselves, casting pitying, highly condescending glances in my direction all evening.
We finally sat down for the lavish five-course dinner, the air thick with tension and unspoken, dirty secrets.
As the dessert plates were cleared away, Vanessa elegantly tapped a silver spoon against her crystal champagne flute.
The entire dining room fell completely silent, giving her their absolute, undivided attention.
Vanessa stood up, smoothing her stunning designer gown, and looked down at me with a gaze of pure, icy contempt.
"I gathered you all here tonight to announce that I can no longer carry the heavy, pathetic burden of a bankrupt failure," she declared loudly.
The guests gasped in unison, completely shocked by the blatant, highly public cruelty of her sudden announcement.
Vanessa proudly announced that she was officially filing for divorce and taking complete ownership of the entire estate.
Greg smiled a deeply wicked, victorious smile, completely ready to watch me crumble into absolute despair.
I slowly wiped my mouth with a linen napkin, stood up from my chair, and pulled my smartphone from my pocket.

"Before you officially claim my house, Vanessa, I think our lovely guests should see exactly how you earned it," I stated calmly.
I pressed a single button on my phone, and the massive television screen behind her instantly flickered to life.
