Chapter 6 - The Midnight Intruder

I dropped my smartphone onto the couch and sprinted desperately up the stairs, taking two steps at a time.

My heart hammered violently against my ribs as I silently approached my mother's closed bedroom door.

I could hear the faint, terrifying sound of heavy boots stepping cautiously across the creaking hardwood floor inside.

I slowly turned the brass doorknob, completely grateful that I had recently oiled the hinges to prevent them from squeaking.

I pushed the door open just enough to see the tall, masked intruder standing directly over my mother's bed.

He was holding a massive, highly dangerous syringe filled with a dark, suspicious liquid, aiming it directly at her fragile arm.

I did not hesitate for a single, precious fraction of a second before launching myself entirely into the dark room.

I aggressively tackled the massive intruder around his waist, violently driving him completely away from my sleeping mother.

We crashed heavily into the wooden dresser, shattering a mirror and sending glass flying across the carpet.

My mother woke up screaming in pure terror, desperately pulling the heavy blankets up to her chin.

The intruder fought with brutal, military-level training, throwing a devastating elbow directly into my ribs.

I gasped for air but absolutely refused to let go of his heavy, tactical jacket.

I violently twisted his arm backward, forcing him to drop the deadly syringe onto the shattered glass.

With a massive surge of adrenaline, I threw a heavy punch that connected perfectly with his masked jaw.

The intruder stumbled backward, completely realizing he had entirely lost the element of surprise.

He quickly scrambled toward the open window, diving recklessly out onto the lower roof of the patio.

I rushed to the window, watching him disappear completely into the dense, dark woods surrounding the estate.

The bright hallway light suddenly flickered on, and Vanessa ran into the room wearing her silk nightgown.

"What on earth is all this screaming about?" she demanded, looking at the broken glass and the syringe on the floor.

She tried to feign shock, but I could clearly see the deep, burning frustration hiding in her calculating eyes.

"A burglar broke in, but I managed to fight him off before he could steal anything," I lied effortlessly.

I knew exactly that Greg had hired a professional hitman to permanently silence my mother before Monday morning.

Vanessa quickly suggested that we call the local police to file an official burglary report.

I firmly shook my head, claiming that the police would only upset my fragile mother even further.

I picked up the dangerous syringe from the floor using a tissue, carefully securing the undeniable evidence of attempted murder.

I spent the entire night sitting in a chair next to my mother's bed, holding her trembling hand until the sun came up.

The next morning, I officially announced to Vanessa that I wanted to host a massive dinner party that very evening.

"I want to invite all our friends and family to celebrate our resilience in the face of my financial ruin," I declared proudly.

Vanessa agreed with a highly suspicious, eager smile, entirely believing this would be the perfect stage to publicly humiliate me.

She immediately began making phone calls to invite our wealthiest friends, setting the stage for her ultimate victory.

I walked down to the basement, completely ready to finalize the technical preparations for my explosive revelation.

But when I logged into my secure cloud server to download the final videos, I discovered a terrifying, flashing red warning on the screen.
