Chapter 8 - The Shadow's Reach

I stared at the terrifying video feed in absolute horror as Eleanor’s burnt face twisted into a grotesque smile.
She had obviously anticipated an attack and used a decoy helicopter to mask her true escape route.
The video abruptly disconnected, leaving the dark cabin of our armored van completely silent save for Rachel's gentle breathing.
I quickly handed the encrypted phone to Marcus, demanding that his team immediately trace the origin of that video transmission.
Marcus typed furiously into his tactical tablet, his scarred face illuminated by the harsh blue glow of the digital map.
He cursed under his breath, revealing that the signal had bounced off a private satellite owned by a foreign drug cartel.
Eleanor was not just laundering money through real estate; she was heavily partnered with an international criminal syndicate.
She was currently fleeing toward a private, heavily fortified airstrip located on the treacherous southern border.
Marcus warned me that his ghost network was strictly domestic, and he could not legally cross international lines with an armed strike team.
I looked at Rachel, who was holding sleeping Lily with a fierce, protective grip that promised she would never let go again.
I refused to spend the rest of my life looking over my shoulder, waiting for Eleanor to send assassins in the dark.
I firmly ordered Marcus to drive the armored van directly to the southern airstrip tonight, regardless of the jurisdictional consequences.
Tyler, who was handcuffed tightly to the steel bench across from me, suddenly began to laugh a pathetic, broken laugh.
He mocked us, stating that the cartel heavily guarded that airstrip with military-grade weapons and anti-aircraft missiles.
He proudly declared that his mother was untouchable, and we were driving straight into a massive slaughterhouse.
I calmly reached into my bag, pulled out a roll of heavy duct tape, and firmly secured it over his annoying, bleeding mouth.
We drove for three agonizing hours through the desolate desert highways, the tension in the van building to a suffocating level.
We finally arrived at the edge of a massive, heavily illuminated compound surrounded by thick concrete walls and guard towers.
A sleek, black private jet was already sitting on the runway, its powerful engines whining loudly as it prepared for immediate takeoff.
Marcus parked the van on a dark ridge overlooking the compound, handing me a pair of high-powered tactical binoculars.
I watched as a heavily bandaged Eleanor was carefully loaded onto the private jet by heavily armed cartel mercenaries.
Marcus stated grimly that we were completely outgunned, outnumbered, and out of time to stop the flight.
I smiled coldly, reaching into my pocket and pulling out the encrypted silver flash drive containing all the evidence.
I plugged the drive into Marcus's tactical tablet and told him to execute the protocol my late husband had named 'Pandora'.
May you like
Marcus's eyes widened in absolute shock as he realized what the encrypted code was actually designed to do.
He pressed the execute button, instantly broadcasting all of Eleanor's secret offshore bank accounts directly to the cartel's rival factions.
